Neuroscience made useful. Where research meets real life.

Neuroscience made useful.

Where research meets real life.

A shared learning community for people living and working with neurodivergence.

What is The Circle?

The Circle is a shared learning space where research, lived experience and professional knowledge all inform one another. Each month, the conversation develops through research, questions, member discussion and a live Circle Gathering.

How The Circle unfolds each month:

  1. I choose an anchor paper and open the month's question. I'll translate the important parts of the science, so there is no expectation that you arrive having deciphered an academic paper yourself.

  2. We think about it together. During the weeks before the gathering, I'll share questions, infographics, related research and reflections. Members can comment, ask questions or simply follow along.

  3. We bring it together live. Our monthly Circle Gathering draws on the research and the conversation that has developed around it, with plenty of room for questions, lived experience and different perspectives.

You can join at any point. There is no need to wait for the next gathering to become part of the conversation.

We will listen, think, learn and make connections together, bringing nutrition, neuroscience, the gut-brain axis and neurodivergent lived experience into ordinary life and professional practice.

You do not need to be a practitioner. You might join through professional interest, lived experience, or the place where the two meet. If you would like to know a little more about membership, you can find answers to the most common questions in the FAQs below.

Journal Club Conversations

Each Circle conversation begins with a question and an anchor paper, then develops through research, reflection, and member discussion before we meet live. Here you can see what we're exploring now, look back at previous conversations and get a sense of where we're going next.

Future themes remain flexible so that I can respond to interesting new research, questions from members and conversations that deserve more space.

ADHD medication, supplements and other supports: what actually helps?

Wednesday 9 September, 5-6pm

Current conversation

Our next live gathering is in September, but the conversation starts now. We'll look at what the evidence tells us about stimulant and non-stimulant medication, supplements and other forms of support, while asking a broader question: what do we actually mean when we say something “works” for ADHD?

During the coming weeks, I'll introduce our anchor paper, translate the key findings, share infographics and related research, and open up questions for members to discuss before we meet.

At the Circle Gathering, we’ll discuss Comparative efficacy and acceptability of pharmacological, psychological, and neurostimulatory interventions for ADHD in adults: a systematic review and component network meta-analysis by Ostinelli et al., published in The Lancet Psychiatry (2025).

This will be our anchor paper for September, but it is very much a starting point, not your homework. You can read as much or as little of it as you like. I’ll pull out the findings that matter, translate the more technical parts and bring in related research on medication, quality of life, supplements and other forms of support, including evidence I’ve previously discussed in my newsletter articles.

Together, we can then look at the wider question: what actually helps, and what do we mean by “helps”?

And, of course, you’re very welcome to bring your own lived experience into the conversation. That’s where The Circle becomes most interesting… When neuroscience meets real life, and the research is considered alongside the experiences of the people actually living it.

October 2026, provisional theme:

How does the change of season affect your ADHD? Science and lived experience.

Coming up

ADHD, diet, the gut microbiome and neuroinflammation

We explored the role of gut-brain communication and inflammation in ADHD and the possible therapeutic role of diet. We had a really great conversation about different angles, from food choices and behaviour as parents, to how to find balance between controlling what we eat and eating more intuitively with ADHD.

The Circle Archive

You don't need to attend every gathering live to stay part of The Circle. Every Circle Gathering is recorded and added to the members' Archive, together with the slides and any supporting materials I share.

The Archive will grow month by month, giving you a library of research-led conversations that you can watch, revisit and work through in your own time.

Missed a gathering? Want to return to something that sparked a question? It will be there when you need it.

The Circle Archive is included with your membership.

This month’s guide: The ADHD Support Map

A practical guide to help you reflect on what you want support with, what is already helping, and what "working" means in real life.

This core library asset helps you think about three things: what you want help with, what is already supporting you, and how well those supports fit your actual life.

It also helps you reflect on benefit, burden and fit, and gives you useful questions to bring into conversations about medication, supplements and other forms of support.

Available to you as a Circle Member.

DR MIGUEL TORIBIO-MATEAS. CLINICAL NEUROSCIENTIST

A neuroscience-based practical resource to guide you through a kinder way to understand difficult moments with food.

The practical guide takes you through four points: what was happening Before, what your system was seeking During, what appeared After, and which small act of Repair might reduce harm and offer support.

The workbook allows you to reflect and act on your reflections.

Available to Circle Members only.
